You would never know from looking at Franklin and Basil that these beautiful, playful kitties and their four siblings were rescued from extreme danger. One of the adult cats in their colony had had its tail cut off and their mom (who was eventually adopted by a neighbour) had only one eye.
Though we don’t know mom’s story, from the genetic evidence, it’s clear that she must have had some fine romps in the back alleys. In a single litter, she produced a short-haired calico girl (Cheesecake), a medium-haired tabby-tortie girl (Kandyfloss), a medium-haired, ginger-and-white boy (Sunflower), a medium-haired, tabby-and-white boy (Koko), along with Basil (aka Kiwi, an almost identical twin), and Franklin (aka Goldenrod, a ginger-and-white, short-haired boy).
Because of being a smidgen shyer, Kiwi and Goldenrod were left after their siblings were adopted, but sometimes it’s lucky to be last! A wonderful young couple fell in love with both of them. They were adopted as a pair, then renamed Basil and Franklin. First, they were given a nice cosy basement, full of toys, as their special territory. Eventually, they became curious enough to climb the stairs. Of course, now they rule the whole roost! Just like so many other happy ACR stories, they’ve become the best friends of two loving humans — a win-win-win-win situation.
