Blanca -- Special foster or adoptive home urgently needed!

Blanca crouchedBlanca was rescued last fall from a Toronto waterfront colony that was being helped by ACR volunteers. The site where her colony lived was threatened by new development and ACR worked tirelessly to move all the cats out of the area just before the wreaking ball hit. By the end of October, ACR had rescued all the remaining cats and arranged for most of the adult feral cats from the colony to go to barn homes.

Although Blanca was considered a semi-feral adult, she had shown great potential as an domestic cat and her longer fur made her less suited to continue living outdoors. Originally we hoped that Blanca could tame up and settle for a pampered indoor life, however the sociallization volunteer that she stayed with had little success. By the time that we decided that perhaps Blanca too might be better off in a barn home, winter had hit, and there was no way that we could rehome a cat back outdoors when she hadn't had a chance to develop her winter coat. Blanca stayed in another temporary foster home over the winter -- with the intent that she was destined to go to a barn in spring, when the weather had warmed up.

BlancaHowever, this beautiful, medium-haired calico appeared to have other ideas.

Over the course of the last 5 months, Blanca has progressed quite a bit and she does not always automatically run away when cautiously approached. She's been known to twine around the legs of her caretaker and let herself be petted. Among the other cats that reside in the same home, it is Blanca who greets you at the door!

This remarkable change in behaviour has caused us to reconsider Blanca's destiny. While we would love to see Blanca continue to progress with her current caretaker, unfortunately she cannot stay much longer as the resident cats have not accepted Blanca into their clique. Blanca must be rehomed in the near future.

We are looking for a dedicated long-term foster home or understanding adoptive home to give Blanca a place to stay. This gorgeous girl will need a very patient home who will allow her to continue to develop her trust with humans. BlancaBlanca is used to the presence of other cats, although she may come around faster in a home without other cats. The sociallization process with an adult cat can take a long time, but ACR will provide coaching assistance as needed. All Blanca needs is your hard work, patience and love. The change from feral cat to sociallized pet will take time and attention but can be extremely rewarding.

Please help our spring flower blossom! Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Blanca?
