Happy Tail: Scotch & Agger

Found in a window well at just two weeks old, Scotch and Agger were rescued along with their four siblings and mother during Toronto’s spring 2018 kitten season. After being microchipped, neutered, and vaccinated upon rescue, the bonded ginger kittens were ready for fostering just a few weeks later and came into the care of Heather and Kevin – generous ACR volunteer fosters.

Having a safe, warm place to settle into worked wonders for nine-week-old Scotch and Agger. “We gave them space to get comfortable living in a home,” says Heather. “We taught them not to scratch when they are playing, and encouraged them to be social with constant petting.” Curious and loving from the start, Scotch and Agger would play with Heather and Kevin’s cat, Riker, and started to crave their foster parents’ comfort and affection. “On weekend mornings, my husband and I would sit on our couch to read, and before long, both kittens would be crawling on top of us looking for attention!” Heather recalls.

After just two months of fostering, another compassionate ‘Heather’ found Scotch and Agger on the adoptions page of the ACR website and immediately reached out to express interest. When first visiting Scotch and Agger at their foster home, Heather was thrilled to see the kittens’ ease with human interaction, enjoyment of being picked up, and natural ability to play well with other cats. After previously owning a bonded pair, Heather knew that Scotch and Agger would bring that special joy back into her family’s home.

“Honestly, it was the best move we ever made!” Heather says when reflecting on adopting Scotch and Agger. “Seeing the boys play together, snuggle together, and love each other has been fantastic. Plus, we get to share the love of these two wonderful ginger guys.” Just over a year later, and both kittens are continuing to grow into their playful and loving personalities at their forever home. Scotch enjoys going on runs around the apartment and is an “opera singer” who proudly meows every morning. Agger chooses to cuddle up at Heather’s side and enjoy quiet moments, but will join his brother for mealtime meows.

The kittens’ desire to give and receive love stands out most for Heather: “Having them both sleep on my pillow above my head at night when they first moved in was special.” They’re both much bigger now, but occasionally, both kitties will still sneak up onto Heather’s pillow for nighttime snuggles. Reflecting on her decision to adopt these sweet boys, Heather is quick to express her gratitude: “The happiness that Scotch and Agger have brought into our lives would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteer team at Annex Cat Rescue. Thank you!”
