How to Adopt

Please contact us if you are thinking of adopting a cat or kitten. Annex Cat Rescue has matched over 4000 cats and kittens with wonderful adoptive homes since our organization started.

Annex Cat Rescue cats live in real homes with our foster volunteers, who provide individual attention to help them socialize. They receive good food, medical care, and lots of love!

As of January 1, 2022, our NEW Adoption fees are as follows:

  • $250 for a single kitten under one year or $475 for 2 kittens
  • $200 for one adult cat and $350 for 2 adults
  • $100 for senior cats 7 years and older, and special needs cats

The adoption fee covers spay or neutering, microchipping, deworming/defleaing and at minimum one set of age-appropriate vaccinations. Adopters also receive an optional 30-day trial of pet health insurance, provided the cat is eligible.

Here is how our adoption process works:

  • Email is the fastest way to reach us. Please email us at adoption@annexcatrescue.ca. One of our Adoption Team volunteers will respond to you, normally within 24 hours, to describe our adoption process and invite you to set up an interview.
  • You can also call us and leave a message at 416-410-3835. We will get in touch as soon as we can, but phone responses may take a bit longer.
  • After your interview, we will connect you with the cat’s foster home. If a cat is popular, you may be placed on a waiting list of up to three people.
  • A visit to the cat in the foster home (or online if COVID restrictions are in place) is arranged to see if you think it’s a good match.
  • If you fall in love on the spot (so easy with kitties!) we ask you to go home and think about it for a day, as it’s an important decision for you, the foster parent, and the cat.
  • If you decide to proceed with the adoption, you pay the adoption fee, bring your cat carrier to the foster home and take your new family member home.
  • We require all adopters to sign our adoption agreement, which sets out some basics so we all understand our roles, with the cat’s best interests first and foremost.
  • After adoption, we stay in touch by email to make sure all is well and offer support, if needed.

If there are no cats available that would be a good match for you, your completed interview will allow you to watch our website and be referred to a foster home more quickly next time you see a cat of interest, for up to 6 months.

If the adoption does not work out, for whatever the reason, the cat will always be welcomed back to our organization. We want the best for our furry friends!
