Happy Tail: Autumn

Autumn was on the streets and trapped in spring 2021. At first, it was thought that Autumn was a spicy kitten. However, Krista, Autumn’s foster, quickly learned that Autumn was just super-shy.

Autumn was initially skittish, and Krista had to approach her very slowly in order to not scare her. But as time went on — and with the help of Krista’s other cat, Elsie — Autumn ended up being sweet and curious. Elsie and Autumn got along very well, and it greatly helped Autumn in becoming more confident and sociable. “The two of them were so wound up together,” recalls Krista, as she would often catch the pair playing with string toys running up and down the halls.

After some time in Krista’s care, Autumn was eventually adopted by Jacqueline. To help continue with improving Autumn’s shyness and seeing how well Autumn got along with Elsie, it was recommended that Autumn be adopted alongside another cat. Luckily, Jacqueline already had Athena, a very cuddly 15-year-old senior cat.

At first, Jacqueline was worried about the personality differences between the two cats, but by keeping them in separate rooms and through gradual introduction, the two cats now peacefully coexist with each other.

“It takes her a long time to open up, but it’s all that much sweeter when she does,” Jacqueline says. Autumn has improved a lot since being adopted, and now since Autumn is more comfortable in her home, her personality is able to shine.

Autumn is a very curious and acrobatic cat. She often gets the zoomies and loves playing with her cat dancer toy. Autumn also enjoys hogging Jacqueline for attention and is very vocal about it. “Her meow is like a chirp,” says Jacqueline, and as soon as she gets home, she’ll start yelling at her immediately for attention and petting.

Autumn’s demanding behaviour is further confirmed when Jacqueline goes to the washroom and Autumn will follow her in and flopping down on the floor asking for belly rubs. Although Autumn loves attention and pets, she still operates on her own terms as she is very adamant about not being picked up or sitting in Jacqueline’s lap.

Autumn also has a track record for being difficult about going to the vet. “Going to the vet is a two-person job,” says Jacqueline. Despite the difficulties with going to the vet, Jacqueline adores Autumn and describes her as incredibly sweet and docile.

It has been two years since Autumn was adopted and she is as happy as ever. Jacqueline now finds herself often preoccupied with petting both of her cats with both hands, keeping both of them content. They in turn bring Jacqueline great joy as well.
