Happy Tail: Fluffy
Some ACR foster and adoption success stories simply write themselves. Witness the charming narrative of the gentle black and white floofball aptly named Fluffy.
Discovered in 2021 living in a colony in north Scarborough, the cat her adopter Felicia would come to describe as a “beautiful baby girl” had babies herself outdoors. Luckily, homes were found for the kittens before Fluffy’s feeder tapped ACR for help in placing this “quite friendly” but homeless girl.
Enter Alexander, a longtime ACR foster who would eventually “foster fail” with a spicy cat named Alecto that was recently spotlighted and who clearly remembers Fluffy amid the dozen-odd cats he has fostered for ACR over the years. “I had her in December 2021, actually right before Alecto!” he recalls. Judging by this anecdote, it’s easy to see why.
“Fluffy was so sweet and charming. She loved being in high places. She really scared me one time when I got home from work and couldn’t find her anywhere. I store my pots and pans on a very high shelf. At one point in my search, I looked up and noticed the lid was ajar on one of the pots.

“I could see one little black ear poking out of the top of the pot. I stood on a chair to look into the pot, which woke her up. She saw me, gave a little chirp, stretched, and then started purring and raised her head up, expecting to be pet.
“As soon as I met Felicia,” Alex continues, referencing Fluffy’s adopter, “I knew she would be a wonderful caregiver. Fluffy couldn’t have found a better home!”
And indeed, as Felicia detailed in an email to ACR last December, Fluffy’s integration into her household has been a smashing success. “Wow! It’s been three years [since the adoption] and Fluffy is doing so well. She has become such a bossy girl. She’ll meow and chirp at us whenever she wants food. (Our other cat Rueben will eat her food if we leave it out for her). She even will meow for cuddles sometimes!
“She has become such a guard cat and almost every night, she’ll sleep at the edge of the bed watching over us. She is as loving as the day we got her and is a mother cat to Rueben. She has also become quite feisty! When her and Rueben play-fight, she’ll hit him a bunch of times. Even if he just walks by her doing nothing, she’ll hit him haha. Especially when it comes to their cat houses! We bought one and they were both fighting over it so we had to get another one so they could each have one.
“She continues to be the best Christmas gift we could have asked for and we can’t imagine our lives without her. Thank you ACR. We just absolutely adore our little princess. Sincerely Felicia, Matthew, Fluffy and Rueben.”
Yup, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
