Happy Tail: Ringo
Normally, when ACR prepares a Happy Tail, we reach out to the adopter after about a year to discuss their newest furry family member. But in the case of 10-year-old Ringo — who was discovered living in someone’s backyard and fostered by Brenda before being adopted by Sarah, Chris, and Olivia in autumn of 2023 — Sarah did such a good job of describing Ringo’s integration into the household that we couldn’t resist quoting her anniversary check-in email verbatim. Take it away, Sarah.
Good morning ACR,
Oh, we’ve been counting down to this day. Ringo’s one year with us! We would loveeeee to be in the Happy Tails newsletter, and I’ll also tag you in my post today!

The way he has grown is truly unbelievable. He was so scared when he came to us, hiding behind pillows and under the bed. He would never meet other people and would only eat when everyone had left the house or gone to bed. Every single noise scared him, we had to tiptoe around so as to not send him into an episode of hiding and not eating for days.
Now? Well, he’s a regular house cat! He is always with us, wherever we go, he goes. The living room all day, the couch during family time, my office when I’m working, and he knows our schedule and starts herding our daughter up to bed by 8:30 because he is tired and sleeps in bed with her all night.
I remember the first time he followed me to the bathroom I told him, ‘Oh, you’re doing cat stuff!’ I realized just the other day that now I can kiss his fluffy head and completely manhandle him for a kitty massage and he just loves it (he didn’t let anyone kiss or cuddle him for many months).
Just last night we fell asleep on the couch spooning! He loves when I sit with him while he eats now because he feels comfortable and safe having his mom around. He LOVES children, all the kids who come over take turns patting him, brushing him, and playing with him.
He is so gentle, always understanding to keep his claws away when he plays, and he just purrs and rolls around for all the kids when they are over. He is even quite intuitive and stays close with our daughter whenever she is sick to help keep her company.
He is so silly, claiming spots of the house as his own and sleeping in the most bizarre positions, belly up towards the sky, fully comfortable and content in his home. And he’s smart! I always say he’s the smartest cat I’ve owned, as he knows a lot of verbal commands and is a total problem solver.
We love him so much and he is the perfect cat for us. He had to work very hard on building trust in our family, and he has come leaps and bounds over the past year. We are so proud of him! I’ll attach a few photos so you can see this silly goose living an absolute life of cat luxury over here.
Thanks for the follow up and everything you do. We are forever grateful to have been paired with Ringo!
